Jasper Weather - Always changing but always beautiful

What to Expect from Jasper Weather

When planning your visit to the Overlander lodge, be sure to take Jasper weather into consideration. Although you can plan your trip to the Overlander any time throughout the year, it's important that you're prepared for conditions during your vacation season.

Spring weather begins in Jasper around mid-April. Visiting in the spring means being prepared for cold weather. The sun will be out, but the weather will still be chilly -- around 7°C (44°F). Bring warm clothing and plenty of layers, especially if you plan on spending time outdoors. Snow is still on the ground in many areas, so spring is a great season for backcountry skiing with respect for avalanche conditions.

Although summer is short in Jasper, weather is beautiful. Days are long -- light lasts until 11:00 PM -- and temperatures get up into the 20s°C (70s°F). Nights still get cold, though, sometimes dropping under 10°C (40s°F). Even if you visit Jasper in the summer, pack warm clothing. Not only does it get cooler at night, if you intend to spend time hiking in the nearby parks, be prepared for the temperature to drop as you climb higher. Summer is the ideal time for long excursions into the nearby national parks.

The leaves start changing in Jasper around September and October, and cover the hills with red and gold foliage. Jasper weather during fall is cool, around 13°C (55°F) but still warm enough that vacationers enjoy spending time outdoors in the National Parks biking, hiking, and canoeing. Vacationing in Jasper during the fall is gorgeous, but pack plenty of warm clothing, hats, and gloves.

Winter spans November through March, and dressing as warmly as possible is strongly advised if you plan to visit . Prepare for winter weather in Jasper by bringing your heaviest coat, warm layers, a warm hat and gloves. That said, winter is no time for staying indoors around Jasper. The area gets fantastic snow fall that makes it ideal for winter sports. Skiing, snowboarding, and winter climbing are popular wintertime activities -- even when temperatures dip down well past -15°C (5°F).
